Utah State’s Stuff-A-Bus surpasses its goal

Utah State University’s Student Nutrition Access Center finished its Stuff-A-Bus month-long food drive on Monday, surpassing its goal of collecting 8,000 pounds of food.

A new record of 9,100 pounds of canned food was collected during the drive.

“It was a lot of work but everything we put in we got back so much more,” said Hannah Elliot, a co-director of the Student Nutrition Access Center.

Every week the number of students coming to help collect the food from homes grew.

“The first week we were a little worried but we got more and more each week,” Elliot said.

“It’s building up the Aggie family,” said Hannah Nickerson, a co-director of the student food pantry.

The weather played a role in how many volunteers came to the event and the amount of food people donated. November was unseasonably warm throughout Utah.

“The weather has been on our side,” said Nelda Ault-Dyslin, the program director of the Val R. Christensen Service Center.

The donated food was taken to the Cache Valley Community Food Pantry.

“It’s had quite an impact,” pantry director Matt Whitaker said.

The large donation creates a positive impact for the Utah State student pantry, as well, because it receives food from the community pantry.

“We have a good relationship with them,” Elliot said.
