Hookah Bowls

For hookah bowl maker from Utah, business is booming — just not in the Beehive State

A Utah State University senior has brought in more than $8,000 with a business he’s running out of his Logan apartment.

His wares? Hookah bowls.

Brandon George’s company, Stone Hookah Bowls, sells custom-made hookah bowls starting at $45.

"This whole thing started out pretty slow," George said. "It was just a hobby of mine to begin with, but I never expected it to get such a big following."

George runs his business in his apartment, where he also hand-crafts all of the bowls. Since he started in the summer of 2015, he has sold more than 500 hookah bowls to customers around the world.

In the Beehive State itself, though, business has been slow.

"I've actually only ever sold three hookah bowls in Utah," George said. "I've been getting orders from hookah lounges all over the U.S. and the world. They usually order a custom-designed bowl, which they are willing to pay up to $100 for."

Jasmine Anderson, George's girlfriend and business partner, has been very supportive of George and his business.

"I help him make the bowls and run the website," Anderson said. "As of right now, it's only the two of us working on this. After Brandon graduates, we plan on moving to Salt Lake and renting a warehouse to turn into our studio."

"This whole experience has been great," George said. "After we move to Salt Lake, we'll see just how far we can expand."
