Cherry Peak plans summer concert series

Known for little more than a local café and a large cattle show, Richmond is a place that seems to be locked in a time capsule, unaware of the world around it. Not much has changed in the past 100 years — and most the residents of this town like it that way.

But if one local man has his way, that’s all about to change.

John Chadwick, the owner of Cherry Peak Resort, said Thursday he has big plans to bring people to the mountain this summer: The resort will be hosting a concert every other week, starting in June.

“We have everything from the big-name acts, all the way down to local bands,” Chadwick said.

The bands, he said, “will be names that people are going to recognize.”

“We’re not messing around here,” he said. “We are going to make Richmond a destination.”

Once started, Chadwick said the concerts would run through the summer and right up to the winter skiing season.

Dustin Hansen, the head of marketing at the resort, said the concerts would be used to fund other activities like mountain biking and a water slide this summer.

“The future of music is going to be a big heart and soul up here and help the mountain expand,” Hansen said. “There is going to be a lot of excitement.”

Hansen hopes the resort will one day be known as a destination for concerts and summer entertainment.

“We have the same climate as a Deer Valley or a Park City,” Hansen said. “There will constantly be something going on that is family friendly.”

Chadwick said he wants the music events to bring people from all over into Richmond.

“How close we are to town is going to bring people up here,” Chadwick said. “There will be an atmosphere unlike anything else in this valley.”
