Free adoption at Cache Humane Society was a success

Flat screen televisions and Bluetooth speakers weren’t the only deals on Black Friday weekend. The Cache Humane Society exempted adoption fees – helping cats and dogs find their fur-ever homes in Logan.

The event, which started on Friday and ended Monday, was called Pawlidayz.

More than 115 shelters, rescue centers and humane organizations across the United States participated in the event.

Stacey Frisk, the executive director of the Cache Humane Society, said Pawlidayz would not have been possible without Zappos.com in partnership with the Best Friends Animal Society. The company covered the normal adoption fee of $175 for dogs and $50 for cats.

A total of 47 dogs and 50 cats were adopted from the Cache Humane Society during the weekend special.

“A normal day here consists of four to five animals being adopted so these numbers are huge,” Frisk said. “It was a big weekend for us.”

Frisk was especially pleased with the number of cats adopted.

“We’re lucky if we adopt a cat every other day,” she added.

The goal was to find homes for 9,000 dogs and cats to represent the 9,000 animals that are euthanized around the country every day because they don’t have a place to call home.

“I definitely think we reached our goal,” Frisk said.

Skye Ferguson, a volunteer at the Cache Humane Society, said she loves nothing more than to see a homeless cat find a loving home.

“It’s not the most glamorous job and I do a lot of dirty work cleaning out litter boxes but it’s so worth it for these sweet cats,” Ferguson said.

Prospective adopters filled out a two-page application and spoke with an employee or volunteer to ensure the animal and owner make a good fit.

“We make sure our animals find good homes, not just any old home,” Ferguson said.

Frisk said clearing out the kennels opens up space to transfer in animals that are currently at high euthanize kennels.

She said the animals in the care of the Cache Humane Society will not be euthanized and they will remain in good care until they find homes.

Two dogs and 22 cats remain available for adoption, some have been there for more than six months.
